Atlanta Trip Info
April 9, 2008
CHAMPIONSHIPS – ATLANTA APRIL 16– APRIL 20 We are leaving from Watertown High School on Wednesday April 16th at 8:15am. Please be there by 8:00 am. We will be taking a Kelley Transportation bus to LaGuardia Airport. We are flying on AirTran flight #365 departing from LaGuardia at 1:21pm and arriving in Atlanta at 3:51 pm. We are staying at the Hilton Atlanta & Towers Downtown, 255 Courtland St. NE, Atlanta Georgia. Telephone is (404)659-2000. We will be returning on Sunday April 20th. We will again be flying on AirTran, flight #368, departing from Atlanta at 10:11am and arriving at LaGuardia at 12:34pm. We will be back at the high school at approximately 3:30 pm. Students will call home about 20-30 minutes before our arrival. Please be prompt in picking up your son/daughter. Included in the cost for the trip is transportation to and from the airport, the airline tickets, the hotel for 4 nights, an unlimited MARTA pass (for transportation around Atlanta) and admission to the Georgia Aquarium. As for meals, only dinner on Saturday night is included in the cost of the trip. Students will be responsible for all other meals. Please be sure to send enough money with them for meals and anything else they may want to purchase. Competition attire is team work shirt on Thursday, and team t-shirts on Friday and Saturday. Pants/shorts are their choice but they have to be clean and not torn. Closed toed shoes are mandatory. All students are required to have some form of photo identification. School id’s are acceptable. They are also required to have at least one pair of approved safety glasses. They must also have a watch and/or cell phone. Please check the weather for the Atlanta area and pack and dress accordingly. The airline allows 2 checked bags per person with a weight limit of 50 lbs each. They also allow 1 carry on and 1 personal item per person. Please check the AirTran website and the TSA website for all of the rules. They will confiscate prohibited items. There will be an 11:00 PM curfew. All students will be taped into their rooms. Please contact a mentor if it becomes necessary to leave the room. The rooms are filled with four students to a room. This is done to minimize the expense of the trip. The students are expected to share the beds or come to an acceptable compromise for the room. There is a convenience stand in the lobby open 24 hours for snacks or light breakfast. Currently the planned group activities are dinner in the “Atlanta Underground” and a visit to the Georgia Aquarium. Scouting meetings will be held on Friday night at a location to be determined in the hotel. Students are free to explore Atlanta only in groups and with the approval of the mentors. We have found in the past that Atlanta is a visitor friendly city and we have never had any problems. There are many meal options available in the area. We will suggest low cost places to go and eat. We are there to compete. We will not tolerate any activity or attitude that will disrupt the group. The scouting and pit duty schedule will be followed by all. No exceptions. The pits are not located close to the arena. Allow enough time to get where you need to be. On Thursday there will be plenty of time to tour the pits and visit with other teams. Thursday at noon in the courtyard is the Chief Delphi Web Hug. If you are a member of Chief Delphi, you will not want to miss this. It is a chance to meet all your CD buddies. We will be taking a team picture at some point depending on the weather. John Boucher 203-577-5733
